How the Battery works
Iro paces its free tier with a Battery, not a penalty. You get one full charge every day. Starting a new lesson spends it, and you always get to finish what you start. Overnight it recharges.
You can bank up to two extra charges: one from the Daily Challenge each day, one for inviting a friend each week, or one for 300 gems. Replays, review sessions, the Daily Challenge and the weekly AI news quiz never use a charge, so the app stays useful after the day’s new lesson is done.
The contrast with hearts-style systems matters. Duolingo docks hearts for mistakes (its publicly documented mechanic, which may change); in Iro, wrong answers cost nothing. The Battery limits how fast you move, not how much you are allowed to get wrong, and getting things wrong is most of how you learn.
