Iro AI vs Sololearn Learn AI: which teaches AI better?

Editorial note: Iro AI is our app. Where it appears below we say so, and it has to earn its spot by the same criteria as everything else.

The verdict

Pick Iro AI if you want the deepest AI-only curriculum, a web app as well as iPhone, and a lower monthly price. Pick Sololearn if you already learn on Sololearn or also want to learn to code.

These two apps are closer than most comparisons on this blog. Both teach people to use AI tools rather than build them, both use short lessons, and both make you practise rather than watch. The differences are in how much there is, where you can use it and what it costs.

What Sololearn's Learn AI app does well

Sololearn is best known for its coding app. Learn AI: Courses・Skills・Tools is a separate app from the same company, and its listing describes it as a place to "practice prompting with GenAI" with bite-sized, beginner-friendly lessons. Its standout is the built-in playground: you try prompts inside the app and get instant feedback, without switching to another tool.

It also sits next to a big ecosystem. Sololearn's main app is a coding school, and its MAX plan there includes Learn AI content as well. If you want to learn Python and prompting in one subscription, that is a real advantage.

What Iro AI is for

Iro AI does one subject in more depth: using AI well at work and in daily life. There are 34 learning paths and 522 lessons, with named paths for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and Perplexity, plus judgment skills like spotting hallucinations and improving weak outputs. Every lesson is about five minutes and built around exercises where you write and fix real prompts.

Every path is open on the free tier. Pro adds unlimited Custom Paths, more Image Lab use and more, for $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year. It runs on iPhone and in the browser at app.tryiro.com, with progress synced between the two. There is no Android app yet.

We make Iro, so weigh this section accordingly. The table above uses each app's own listing for its facts.

Which to choose

  • You want to get good at using AI tools, and nothing else: Iro AI. More AI-specific lessons, and a lower monthly price.
  • You also want to learn to code: Sololearn, through its main app.
  • You use a computer more than a phone: Iro AI, because of the web app.
  • You want to try prompts inside the lesson app itself: Sololearn's playground is built for that.

Not sure where you stand? The free AI literacy test takes two minutes and shows which skills to work on first, whichever app you pick.

Practice this, don't just read it.
